HALO Success Stories

we adopted Bonnie last December. She is doing great. She just graduated from school last week. She is a total trip. She carries her blanky around with her everywhere.

Sometimes she can be a challenge. She loves to chase our cat Leo and Max, our Maltese, sure does put her in her place at times.

She loves to bring in big rocks and put them on our couch. She makes us laugh so much.

We love her so much.

Thank you,
Tim and Rose

Dear HALO,
We are having a wonderful time with our new little guy. We named him Nicky.

He is a bundle of love and joy and energy.

Nicky and Carlino, our 5-year-old rott/doby love each other. They spend hours playing together. Carlino takes care of Nicky and is showing him the ropes.

Nicky is already 17 pounds. He went to the vet for his third series of vaccinations. He is one healthy puppy.

I'll keep in touch as Nicky grows

Best Regards,
Susan

I just wanted to let you know how Wilbur (aka Milly) is doing.

I adopted Wilbur in December 2007 and he is a special kitty (I am slightly biased). He is the most playful cat I have ever had.

He especially loves to play with corks. I will put a couple of corks in a basket when I leave for work and by the time I return the corks are usually under the sofa.

He also loves run up to the top his three level kitty condo (yes, he is very spoiled) and watch the birds outside.

I have sent a photo of Wilbur in his favorite window seat.

I found Wilbur at the PetSmart at (Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd.) in Scottsdale just by luck. I went in with my mom who wanted to purchase some dog food and of course I had to look at all the kitties. I spotted Wilbur and fell in love.

Thanks for all the work you do.

Corinne

Dear HALO,
After losing our beloved German Shepard, Reba, we recently adopted "Annie" from you at a Phoenix area PetSmart. We renamed her Samantha Lanae. We could not be happier to have her in our lives.

Initially I was afraid that it was too soon as our other German Shepard wanted nothing to do with her. However, he has since begun to come around to her playfulness and even tolerates her jumping on him. Samantha is even daring enough to wrestle with one of our two cats and she's smart enough to avoid the older, bigger, grumpier, cat.

Samantha sleeps right between my husband & I (something I never allowed our dogs to do before). I find myself rushing home several times a day just to see her and play with her.

I am eternally grateful to you for allowing us the opportunity to adopt Samantha and provide her with a loving home. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Donna and David,
Tucson, Arizona

I wanted to give you an update on Janie (now Razzi) and Hazel (now JeNais) now that they have been with me for 1 ½ years.

They are so sweet and happy and it is funny how the dynamic has evolved.

Janie/Razzi is a permanent kitten. Probably because she was in a cage for so long, that was the only behavior she saw.

Everything is a wonderment for this child – it is so heartwarming to watch her investigate everything. She has some funny, bad behavior, but is a fast learner and minds very well with verbal correction.

She has a bad habit of pushing others out of their food bowl but she is learning to wait until they are done and then she is allowed to eat from any bowl once I put them in the official spot, once everybody has eaten (I have six cats).

As she has a permanent Kitten personality, she craves mothering from other cats.

I have another cat I adopted from HALO, named Sedona, (your name was Marissa), who mothers Razzi and grooms her in the manner that Razzi craves. I have attached a picture of the two of them that shows how much they love each other.

As for little baby JeNais – talk about spoiled! She is the cuddliest baby I have. She is so funny – she jumps right up onto your chest and pushed her little face into yours and snuggles.

One last picture is of Sedona (Marissia). It shows what a tough life she has!

Thanks for all you do for the animals. Just know the ones that live in my house have it made!!!

Liz

Dear HALO,
When I met my now husband, I had a crazy chinese crested dog. She was so sweet, but she grew to despise the new addition to our family.

In September 2007, we found out we were pregnant and were really happy. However, my poor dog was so terrified of my husband that she would attack him out of self-defense. With a new baby on the way, there was no way we could keep her in the house. I had raised her from a little puppy and it broke my heart to give her to a new home.

Knowing I was going to lose my K-9 baby, I had been looking for puppies for rescue on-line and came across HALO. There I found Pickles and her five adorable puppies. Mom and three babies had already been adopted, so I immediately filled out an application and scheduled an appointment to meet Appleton and Walnut.

After taking the hour-long drive out to the Union Hills rescue, we fell in LOVE with Walnut. A week later we took him home and (after many different names) started calling him Pepper.

Pepper is the cutest, sweetest, most loving puppy we could have ever taken into our home. Since meeting Pepper, our family immediately started asking if he had any brothers/sisters left! Everyone loves him and he loves EVERYBODY. If someone ignores him, he'll give them a tail-wagging "WOOF" to remind them, "Hey, I'm down here!"

With short-stubby legs and a heart of gold, Pepper has completed our K-9 family and we are so thankful to HALO for providing such a sweet, healthy friendly playmate for our entire family!

Althea, Jason, Alex and Pepper

Hello,
We adopted Barkely (formerly known as Cecille) five weeks ago. He was around 10 pounds. Now five weeks later, he is almost 30 pounds. He and our other rescue dog, Redford, have bonded and are great friends.

Barkely is a really great puppy who is doing well and is completing his puppy training class at PetSmart next week. He sleeps great and is almost potty-trained.

He is a wonderful addition to our family. We are so happy to have adopted him.

Thanks HALO for your great work in saving animals!

Tony, Mary Kay, Andrew and Jacob

Dear HALO Rescue,
In November we adopted "Dani Lynn" from you.

We named her Bella and we just wanted to give you an update so that you can see how well she is doing these days!!

Thank you for her!

Jason and Sara

Hello,
Just wanted to thank you for putting me in touch with Michelle.

We adopted "Shardeae" H6137.

As you can see, she's fitting in just fine.

Thanks,
Stephanie

Hello,
I just wanted to send an update about Millie (AKA: "Mouse") and Daisy.

I adopted Millie back in July, 2007 from HALO and she was the perfect fit for me! I was "pet-less" since the loss of my dog and Millie brought life back into the house. She was the cutest little kitten and she has grown-up to be a very cool cat!

I also found Daisy on HALO, although she was a courtesy listing and still at her home with Stacia & JT (among other cats and a puppy).

Fortunately for me, Stacia was allergic to Daisy and Daisy came to live with me in January!

Daisy is just the sweetest dog I've ever met and I feel so lucky to have her.

Daisy & Millie became fast friends and they like to chase each other and play with one another's toys. The girls also like to crash in my office while I'm working.

Daisy loves our evening walk and I look forward to it, as well. She's so well-mannered, I am still shocked by her excellent behavior!

Here are a couple of pictures of Daisy and Millie -- they are as cute as they are fun :)

Keep up the good work pairing animals with people who love them.

Kris

Hi there,
I adopted Felix (formerly Appleton) back in November, so he is almost 7 months old now!

He is learning is name and is handling potty training really well.

I couldn't be happier with him.

He is a funny little guy who gets a lot of heads turned when we go out. No one can figure out what mix he is!

He is all of 5 pounds now, so it will be interesting to see how big he gets.

He is still a little whiner at times, but not nearly how he used to be!

Thank you so much for this opportunity to have such a wonderful baby!

Victoria

Dear HALO Animal Rescue,
We adopted our furry little puppy, Cooper, last Saturday and are thrilled to call him ours.

He is learning is name and is handling potty training really well.

Cooper loves his stuffed animals and is growing already.

We are taking him to the vet Thursday to get him checked out and schedule his remaining shots.

Thanks for helping us find our little puppy with a huge heart!

Heather and Johnny

Hi,
I just thought I'd drop you another line to tell you how well Lizie is doing!!

It's been about 2 months now and she is the best little girl. She runs through the doggie door and runs about 3 laps around the grass in the backyard in the morning.

Even though she's about 2 years old, we have added some puppy food to her regular food to keep the weight on her. She weighs in at about 4-1/2 lbs. right now. She runs around and plays with the other dogs all day and burns up calories.

Lizie likes visitors and also likes to bark at cats that walk along our wall. She goes to work with me sometimes on Fridays and plays with a couple of other small dogs there. Everyone at work loves her and almost everyday someone asks me how she's doing.

At night she can hardly keep her eyes open because she gets so tired. She gives me a reason to rush home after work to see her. We really love her a lot and she definitely will always be part of our family.

Julie

Hi there,
We just wanted to send you some updated photos of Fiona with her new friends and her latest lounging area.

She grew out of her small kitty bed (the original picture we sent to all) and has moved on to the couch!

She loves our 3-year-old, Ayden, and has become buddies with our kitty, Cassie.

She has learned to catch a ball, "high fives", sit, lay down, and roll over. She'll start obedience school in March. She enjoys running after tennis balls and is very good at playing "fetch".

We love having her in our home and we don't think she minds it either!

Take Care,
Anat, Adam, Ayden, and Princess Fiona

Hi,
Brody adjusted as soon as he walked in the door and we are so proud of him already! He appears to be housebroken and a very eager and quick learner!

We spent his first full day all together at home which helped him adjust to us, his new dog big brother (who loves him too!) and his new routine. We have not seen any aggression at all - not even over food.

Yesterday was grooming & vet visit day! The groomer said he loved his bath and his coat is bright and healthy! The vet is treating him with a mild antibiotic for his slight cough and sneezing (not sure if it's allergies or kennel cough but we're treating him to be safe). He has a cyst in his cheek that we are going to watch for a week or two. When he returns for his final vaccination, the vet will advise us on treatment for it but didn't feel it was necessary to treat immediately. She said his ear injury (from a bite possibly?) and neutering scar are both healing nicely. He had a bout with diarrhea (possibly as a result of introducing new food) so he is on a bland rice and chicken diet for a couple of days until his system returns to normal. The vet said he is about 5 pounds underweight but we'll have him on track soon.

Brody has a cozy crate where he sleeps quietly through the night and naps during the day.

He is a gentle and sweet puppy who loves to cuddle, hug and be near us - and he loves to explore the backyard.

By the way, I registered his microchip on 24PetWatch's Website so he's all set with that and we will begin puppy training classes in a week or so, once he has fully recovered from his digestive irritation.

Thank you!
Allyson

Hi,
I'm not sure you'll remember me, but at the beginning of this month, I e-mailed you in search of a cock-a-poo.

I am writing to GLADLY inform you that on Saturday, Jan. 26, I attended the Anthem Community Park pet-adoption event & immediately fell in love with Dylan - a black, almost 3-year-old cock-a-poo that HALO just took in Friday, the night before!

I have renamed Dylan to Duffy. He is the best, well-mannered adopted dog I have encountered.

And, the poor guy has gone through an awful lot in one short week.

Being neutered on Monday (less than a week ago), being placed up for adoption four days later - removed from his environment that he's known (his owners moving to Australia), attending an outdoor adopt-a-thon on Sat. & then being adopted by me in yet again completely new surroundings.

What a week for this poor guy. But he adapts SO well.

He is such a good & sweet boy.

It must have been hard giving him up.

Anyway, I just wanted to say 'thank you' for the services you provide & to let you know that Dylan (Duffy) is doing extremely well in his new home. I've attached a few pictures of him & even one with his new sister, Snickers.

Thank you again!

Sincerely,
Pam

Daryl is doing very well ...
Daryl learned the doggie door in about 15 minutes and is almost potty trained, just a few accidents here and there.

He also knows how to sit, lay down, and shake!!

He's very happy and very much a puppy - biting and chewing on anything he can get his little paws on.

Oh, his ears almost completely stick up all the time now and it's so so cute.

He gives lots of kisses, loves running up the stairs (but refuses to come down on his own), doesn't like the laundry room, hates baths, loves all his toys, loves going underneath our bed.

He also sleeps with us ... oops ... but we love it!

At night he can see his reflection in our sliding glass door, and barks really low and gets very protective.

He loooooves when people come over and seems to really love the ladies! He's a very big hit with everyone!

We love him so much and we can't imagine life without him.

Thank you so much for saving him and allowing him to come into our lives, we love our little family!

I'll continue to send you updates and pictures ... hope all is well!

Nick and Jessica

Hello:,
I just wanted to send you some pix of two Chihuahua cross-breeds that I adopted from your agency at the 90th St. Scottsdale PetsMart on October 6, 2007 and January 5, 2008.

They are both wonderful dogs, thriving in their new home and already getting along like sisters!

A big thank you to your organization for your exceptional work on behalf of all these animals to whom you have given a second chance at life!!!!

Warm Regards,
Helene

Hi HALO Angels,
I don't think I have sent you a photo of Snowflake since she has adapted to her new home with us.

We adopted her in, I think, June, 2007, after we had put our 11 1/2-year-old German Shepherd down.

Snowflake was so traumatized and sick in the beginning, but you at HALO literally nursed her back to health - you were amazing!!!

She now is a bit pudgy (loves to eat!), is so loving and we learned from our pet sitter that she is a Ragdoll breed.

They are amazing cats, very passive and sweet (When you pick them up they just hang there, get limp like a ragdoll).

I was going to change her name, but when I learned that Ragdolls are born all white and get their color later, I understood the name and decided it fit her.

I call her my "purr muffin" because all she does is purr.

She has really helped us in mending our broken hearts from the loss of our Shepherd. We are so grateful to HALO and all that you do for animals and, especially, for our Snowflake. She is my furry angel and I cannot imagine life without her.

I recently took a trip and when she saw the suitcase, she got onto my bed that night and cuddled as close as she could. Boy does she communicate! When I returned, she did the same thing.

She sometimes gently touches my cheek during the night when I'm asleep. What a little love!

She loves to play with string and straps and loves to hang out in the straps of Aaron's backpack (see photo).

We love her! Thanks a million.

Debbie and Aaron

Hey,
Just thought I'd send you a "humiliation" xmas photo of Charley (Zappa), the seizure cat! He's doing well on his Phenobarb (adopted him just about a year ago).

Thanks for saving him for us!

Happy Holidays!

Carol

Hi,
Carlie (formerly Mary) has brought so much joy into our lives after the loss of our little 15-year-old min-pin. She gives us several giggles per day.

She was afraid of men but now jumps gleefully into my husband's lap.

She is so Italian Greyhound and has brought new life to our old Australian Sheppard.

We feel blessed to have found her at HALO through your website.

She sleeps between us at in a little ball and I know she knows that she is knows that she is now "home."

Marianne

Hi,
Here are some pics of Rosy. She is doing great. She is venturing out around the house more this morning. Thanks again for all you do.

Mandy

I just wanted to let you know that Samson (aka Brando) is settling into our family perfectly.

My 9-month-old cat, Frisco, is very excited to have a friend again. He was a little fearful of the dogs, but after he gave them a couple of good whacks he felt more secure.

Thanks so much!

Carrie

Hi!
I adopted Tyler in May 2006 and wanted to let you and his former family (he was given up due to allergies) know how well he's doing -- he's such a sweet boy and loves to snuggle and let me know when he's ready for treats.

I couldn't ask for a better cat companion, and all my visitors tell me how lucky I am.

Valerie

Hello,
You had put a dog, named Harley, up for adoption on your site...

We have just found her a home, and will no longer be needing her information on your site... THANK YOU SO MUCH!

We had put flyers around town, used word of mouth and posted her on other sites, but your site is the reason she now has an awesome home... once again, Thank you!

You guys are awesome & I'm glad there are organizations like yours that are out to help animals & find them good homes!

Your fan,
Polly

Hi Everyone,
Attached are pictures of the latest addition to our family. His name is Romey and he is a 7-month-old black lab that we adopted from a rescue organization in Phoenix.

He was hit by a car before he was rescued and underwent surgery two weeks ago to fix his hip, but he is recovering very well, and although he still favors his hurt side, he is running and playing like there is nothing wrong.

The cats still aren't too sure about him, Mayhem is slowly moving closer to him and Mookie is still trying to establish her dominance, although we are sure that over time they will become close.

He is also the biggest lover dog. We know that he is going to end up being an 80-pound lap dog! Just figured I would share the good news with all of you.

Love you all!
Kate

Hi!
I just wanted to tell you that the kitten we adopted this past summer has become such an important part of our lives.

She (Cleo is her new name) has helped me heal from the loss of our 10-year-old cat, Jack, this past spring. We've never had such a brave and fearless kitten.

And she has accepted our other two large dogs as family too.

Thank you for her rescue and all you do for all of your animals.

Thank you again,
Nancy

Hi,
Just a note to let you know how happy we are with Foxy. We adopted her on April 24, 2007.

She has become one of the family. She knows the routine around here, the morning treat and vitamins. She dances for the treats and vitamins. She is always happy to see us. She greets us at the door with dancing and kisses.

She likes to snuggle in the evenings while we watch TV. She has her toys scattered all over the house. She is very much a pillow and blanket baby.

When we got her, she weighed about 4 pounds and now weighs 7 pounds.

She likes to ride in the car. We are getting ready to take her on her first long ride. We are going to northern New Mexico for Thanksgiving and she gets to go too. We really do enjoy her.

Sincerely,
Betty & Jim

Hi there,
Fiona is doing great! She's only waking up once during the night to go to the bathroom outside and then she comes right back to her bed.

She's eating well and is so playful. We are absolutely in love with her and so is our extended family. She's a great puppy and we're so happy we found her.

Thanks for saving Fiona and her family!

Anat, Adam, Ayden and Princess Fiona

Hello,
I adopted Squeak on Sept 22 from the PetSmart on Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd and I thought you'd like to see some pictures we took of him.

I can't tell you how happy we are to have him as a member of our family. He's very mellow, talkative (definitely lives up to his name), intelligent and people-oriented. We're still in the process of training him in the few rules we feel we have to impose, but he learns very quickly. I guess you could say he's in the process of training us to know what he wants and doesn't want.

We've introduced him to our daughter's Italian greyhound and they're developing their relationship. She wants to play with him and he's interested in her except when she gets too enthusiastic -- a monster soft paw tells her to back off.

Anyway, I think Squeak would say thank you for helping him find his new home and the rest of the family definitely does!

Suzanne

Hello,
Our new puppy Rocko (a.k.a. Dudly) is perfect!

We love him so much! He was not trained very well when we first brought him home, but he is learning quickly. He has not torn up our house (like he was known to do), just the toys we have given him.

We appreciate everything you guys have done for us and could not be happier! Thank you so much!

Sincerely,
Kris and Tasha

Hello,
I adopted Maxine about 8 months ago now. She was only 1 year old at the time I think, but I changed her name right away because it just didn't fit her. I changed her name to Rylie and she learned it in about two weeks so she must like it ... haha.

Anyways, I just wanted to send you guys some pictures of her to show you that she's healthy and still doing great.

She is not like other cats, she likes to play like a dog. My brother little puppy and her started out kind of rough but now it's to the point where they sleep next to each other. It's only when we're not home though, that's the funny part. When we're home they both chase each other and play and try to act like they don't like each other, but they love to just put on a show for us.

I just moved out of my condo and now live in a house where Rylie has her own bench window. She mostly spends time in the bathroom though looking at herself in the mirror. She is one self-absorbed cat ... haha I always catch her just staring at herself.

But I don't want to make this a novel, so I'll end it here, but I thought you would like to see how she's been doing. I'll keep you posted if anything changes.

Sincerely,
Lacy and Rylie

Everything is going great with Daphne.

She is fitting in very well and is very affectionate.

She loves playing fetch with her toys.

The Kosalski Family

Hello,
We adopted Lovey on Friday, but he is now "Ed".

He is enjoying is new life. My daughter spoils him rotten just like I knew she would.

He fit right in and there was really no adjustment phase for him. We have a small dog and they already get along great.

He eats, drinks and uses his litter box just like he is supposed to and has his vet appointment set for his next round of shots.

The first attached picture is of Ed in a 150-year-old bowl that belonged to my great grandmother, she used it to make her bread dough.

The second his Ed with his person. He thinks the bowl is a great place to nap, but at night he sleeps with his human.

Sincerely,
Wanda, Rachael, Gracie (the dog) and Ed

Dear Michel and HALO Staff,
I wanted to write to let you know how our new dog, Benny, is doing. He has brought so much love and sunshine into our home. We feel blessed to have this little boy in our family, and I am grateful to have scooped him up first before he went out for formal adoption.

Just to update you, we've found a great vet who is very knowledgeable and gives Benny treats and scratches. With her help, we're establishing good hygiene habits for him and have gotten him updated on all his shots. He even got his little claws trimmed, and he prances around like the handsome boy that he is.

After a few weeks, we finally worked out a potty and eating routine for him, and we are able to read his moods better now. For example, I know to devote a little extra playtime to him right after something traumatic happens (like vacuuming), and when he gets tired and cranky I know that he prefers to be left alone to sleep. When it's bedtime, he goes straight for his dog bed and lets us sleep through the night.

We've gotten him plenty of human, cat and small-dog socialization. My mom has adopted a few pets from HALO, and now all the babies play with each other and get to learn proper dog/cat hierarchies and behaviors together. It's pretty cute to watch!

Thank you for rescuing him from whatever situation he came from and for giving him a second chance at finding happiness in our home. We couldn't have found a better companion, and we look forward to a long, happy, healthy life together!

Sincerely,
Darcee and Philip

Hello,
Just a note to tell you how Jett ( Molasses) is doing.

We fell in love with him when we saw him. He is so cuddly and sweet. He kind of runs side ways and when he sits, he sits forward to back.

Our other dog, who is a rescue, just loves him. Wasn't sure at first however now they are inseparable.

We believe he is a Minature Pinscher mix. As you can see by his photo, he has really grown up and changed in appearance.

We are really happy we found him. Thanks Halo.

Becky, Erik and Clan

Hello,
Everything is WONDERFUL with our new kitten. It seems like she's been with us forever. She's eating, drinking, sleeping very well. Her new name is Betsy ... she's won all of our hearts, including our dog's! A special thank you to Nita!

Jane and family

Here are photos of Daisy (formerly Gumdrop) that I promised I would send to you. You will also see Pugzie, our little pug mix that we adopted from Halo in March 2006. They get along great together and as you can see, Daisy is very relaxed. My sister is holding her. Everyone wanted to take her home with them, but she is part of our family and we're not giving her up.

She is the sweetest and most gentle dog I've every known and we are really enjoying her.

Thank you for all your work on behalf of animal rescue.

Dorothy

Raven is doing very well and thriving in our home.

We all love her very much, except for our Lilo. She's not mean to Raven, but she does hiss and growl when Raven gets close to her. She'd rather stay clear of the baby. It took over a month for her to get used to Jett, our last adoptee, so we'll just give it a little more time.

Thanks for all your great work!

Cheryl & Ethan

I went to PetSmart one Sunday afternoon about two years ago when I saw Rusty (Dobie). It was love at first sight.

I already had two dogs at home so I knew I couldn't bring home another one. After sitting there petting and talking to him, I left and went home. An hour later, I was back and he was still there. Needless to say he was my new adopted baby boy.

Rusty has a sister named Shadow, she is a black lab, and brother named Snickers, a German Pinscher. They all get along great.

Rusty sleeps at the foot of the bed and never moves until I get up. He is my little bodyguard.

Rusty gets a lot of love from his nieces and nephews as well as his Granny and he gives back a ton of love too.

Adopting Rusty was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I can't imagine our house without him.

Thank You HALO!

Becky

Hello,
We adopted Sheba 7.14.07, and she seems to be adjusting beautifully.

We already have a male Manchester Terrier, so she compliments him perfectly. We were all amazed at how quickly they have bonded. Within a matter of a couple hours they already started to act as if they have known each other for years.

She is quite the eater! As soon as she got here she immediately started to eat and drink out of her own bowls.

She does very well with our children and they enjoy her just as much as we do.

Here are a few pictures, hope you enjoy them.

Thank you!

The Gruppo Family

Hello,
We wanted to send updated pictures of the sweet little girl we got from you on Christmas 2006.

Little "Maggie Mae", who we call Charlie, is just as sweet as can be. I think she looks a lot like her mommy, GiGi. Jared and I keep wishing that we had adopted her too.

We now have a six month old human-baby as well, Tyler. We own a house now, no longer renting, so it's nice to be able to let our furry babies have their own yard to destroy. :0) No, they are very good actually. Here are a few pics for you.

Charlie has added so much love to our lives! We are so very happy to have our furry baby.

Thank you!

Veronika and Jared

Hello,
It has been seven months since I adopted Fina from your rescue.

Recently she visited the vet for her rabies shot and he was quite impressed with her beauty. He commented that she could be a full-breed Siamese and that I was lucky to get such a beautiful cat from the rescue.

Many of my girlfriends are also cat people and when they visit I have to check their bags before they leave as the girls always talk about taking Fina home because she is so cute.

Indeed she is beautiful, lovable, typical Siamese behavior problems, thinks she is a dog and plays fetch and CATCH! With toys, walks on a leash and sits upon her perch and tries to taunt the birds through the window. She is an avid bird watcher.

Attached is her latest photo, on her latest favorite window spot in the most odd but I guess comfortable position.

She is truly my companion but welcomes and loves anyone who visits her home.

She is special.

Regards,
Thann

Hello,
We adopted 2 cats through the HALO program.

Our first adoption was for a red tabby cat named Tiger in 2004. Our second adoption was for a blue point siamese/tabby named Shanghi in 2006 - we changed his name to LYNX.

They get along great and have a grandma dog to watch over them as well (a pom-poo named Flicka) Just thought you might want to know how they were doing!

Lyza & Troy

Hello,
In Sept. of 2005, we lost our mother dog to cancer.

After a couple of weeks of her "pup" (about six and a half years old) not eating, howling and escaping the yard when we went to work, we were besides ourselves as to what to do.

Our Vet said she was healthy but we may lose her too due to depression and suggested we get another dog as our Bandit had never been alone.

After looking around and being unable to find another suitable dog we went to the adoption fair at the Monastery on Camelback Rd.

After walking around and checking several sites with Bandit in tow, I spotted a black-and-white dog with the most beautiful blue eyes.

My wife and I walked over and found out he was a one-year-old Husky mix named Yukon.

Being about the same size as Bandit which is a tan and white husky/wolf mix, we introduced them and they hit it right off.

Needless to say, Yukon (name since changed to Maverick) was in our truck on his way to a new home in no time.

Maverick quickly stole our hearts and became a happy member of our family and you couldn't separate the two dogs if you tried.

Maverick is healthy, happy and is a much loved wonderful dog.

Thank you so much,

Hello,
Well it's been almost 8 months since I adopted my wonderful kitty Halloween.

I believe she is pretty much full grown now and such a character. I wanted to update you with an email and some pictures, so you can see her progress.

She has a "brother" (by adoption) who you will see in some of the pictures as well.

She absolutely loves running the house, that's right, she is the boss and will let you know when you step out of line (not in a harsh way).

She gives my husband and I massages every night before bed (sweet but oh so painful).

She is one of the softest cats I have ever encountered. Such an interesting personality. She carries her "lovee" all over the house with her (you will see it in some of the pictures, it's the purple octopus). It's so cute to see her drag it every where with her.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures and thank you again for our awesome Halloween!

Robin K.

Hello,
Bella is adjusting so well. In the four days we have had her, she has become a totally different puppy from our first meeting. She plays with Bently, the puppy next door to us, and she is just the cutest best pup that we could have ever asked for. Thank you so much for bringing her into our lives.

She sleeps, eats and does everything like a puppy should. She is quite the begger when it comes to food and treats, and she has a very healthy appetite.

Thanks again,
Courtney, Tim and Bella

Hello,
I wanted to send you some shots of Iris in her new home and let you know how adorable she is and how much we love her!

She has a red teddy bear that she just loves - we'll find strategically placed throughout the house - the funniest thing is when it's sitting upright, staring out at us from a doorway or closet.

She loves to open our kitchen cabinets and hide inside - one shot is of her making a "grand entrace" (or exit) from a favorite spot.

My husband just loves her, too - my other three cats are still not quite sure about her - they're more crotchety than I'd thought they'd be, but Iris holds her own and they back off quickly when she lets them know she's not taking any of their guff - I'm still hopeful they'll all be friends eventually.

Anyway, I know you must think about the animals that pass through your doors and I wanted you and your staff to know Iris is a very special kitty and we are so happy to have her as part of our family.

Take care and keep up your wonderful work!

Bless you always,
Naomi

Hello,
Our new addition is doing very well, she really likes it here and is getting along extremely well with our other cat. We have renamed her to Pancake, but she responds to anything really, haha. I've attached some pictures of her and hope you will enjoy. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Ayla

Rocky (formerly Lone Star) appears to be adjusting well.

He is swiping at my hands as I type this for daring to not pay attention to him.

My other cat (a 7-year-old female) tried to hiss at him for a few days but he won her over.

As you can see from the picture he has already assumed full control over the house, and is lounging on his throne overlooking his kingdom.

Thanks to all of you at Halo - Rocky is a welcome addition to my home.

Larry

Hi,
Inez and I thought you might like an update on our dog Lady, a welsh corgi spaniel mix that we adopted from you. If you have forgotten which dog she is, here are some pictures of the "terrible" life she is now leading. In my next life, I will be happy to come back as Lady and if I should get lost be adopted by such a caring outfit as Halo.

Lady had Valley Fever, but with the care and love she has received the veterinarian on her last visit a month ago has said she is now fine and is no longer on any medicine.

Everyone who meets Lady falls in love with her and immediately calls her pretty girl. We gave an obedience course at PetSmart, but she proved that it really was not necessary. She does absolutely everything we ask. Lady has a sweet personality and barks like crazy when she hears something, but when the door is opened she licks whoever is there.

Anyway, thought you might like an update.

Thanks for giving us such pleasure.

Max & Inez

Hi,
Our new puppy is doing great!! My 16-year-old daughter renamed him Tiquo (Teeko) and he is a joy!

We already have a 5-year-old Boxer and she and Tiquo have become fast friends. I have included two photos, one with both dogs and one with my 5-year-old daughter.

Thank you for the opportunity to adopt this adorable lab pup and have a wonderful new member to our family.

Tracy

Hi,
We just wanted to check in to say hi and let you know that our two pups Jax and Soshi (Charger and Desiree when adopted) are doing great!

They are such a blast and we love them both very much! They are such smart puppies, love chasing each other around the yard, and love even more taking puppy naps together.

We can't wait to see how big they get and all the fun they bring! They sure are little heart breakers, every time we take them to the park people walk all the way over to pet "the cute puppies."

Please enjoy the recent pictures of them, they've grown a lot in a month! Nap time pictures are the easiest, they don't run like crazy and try and eat the camera ha ha.

Thank you also for all your wonderful help and giving us the opportunity to have such great dogs! We love HALO!

Stacy + Luke ... Jax + Soshi

Hi,
We are all in LOVE with our new kitty, who we named Ollie. He's so good with the kids, and seems to have adopted my 4-year-old son as his own.

He's just a sweetheart. Many thanks for all you do.

Kind regards,

Karrin

Hi!
Huxley is doing great! His eating, drinking, and sleeping is all perfectly normal.

We've introduced him to our other dog Bailey, a westie, and they get along great. They play together for hours with toys and bones, although most of the time he would much rather curl up on blanket on the couch and sleep.

He's completely house-trained and goes in and out of the doggie door as needed, which is a welcomed surprise.

As each day goes on he seems to become more and more accustomed and more and more comfortable with his new home and family and we're all looking forward to years of enjoyment with him.

Thanks!

Eric

Hi!
I wanted to let you know that Snoopy is doing great! It didn't take him long to get comfortable in his new home. He is now very protective of our house and us. He loves going for walks around our apartment complex and playing with his toys at home. His stuff frog that squeeks is his favorite.

We are loving Snoopy. He is a part of our family now and our first child. He constantly makes us laugh and smile. Thank you very much for saving him and giving us the opportunity to adopt him, you are wonderful people, keep up the good work!

Melissa

Hi!
Here are pictures of Bazil. He's doing great! He just got his third round of booster shots and doubled his weight in just three weeks at 4 pounds.

We just got back from California. He did great in the car. He's almost fully trained to go on the puppy pads. I decided not to crate train him because I'm gone for too long for him to be stuck in a crate so I'm just trying to get him potty trained (and not to bite on electrical cords) so he can be free to run around the apartment.

Riley is awesome and Spike loves his new little brother ~ we have tons of pictures already (when I download them this week I will zip them over to you). Spike showed him the house ropes (where to pee outside and which are the dog toys).

He is sleeping alot and not eating well without coaxing and that is a touch worrisome but we are hoping that as he settles in these things will dissipate.

We are giving him lots of love and a warm bed to sleep in and really who could be cold squished between two humans? He follows each of us around like we are the next best thing to sliced bread and when he needs to rest he hops on the couch in the great room and settles in for a bit since he can see us wherever we are from there (he's a smart one).

Okay so there you go! I thank you so much for the opportunity to take a new loved one into our house; he indeed is living the Life of Riley now (six dog beds, 20 some odd toys, a dog brother and kitty sister, many sweaters and jackets for those cold days, food, water, a backyard, and of course humans that think he can do no wrong).

~ mother of Riley; also known as Liseanne~

Hi!
Finally, some new pics of Homer! He's a whopping 4 lbs. now and is so smart! We were looking at the first pictures you sent us of him, and it's hard to believe he's the same dog. I'll keep you posted as he grows!

We can't thank you enough!

Chele, Pat & Homer

Hi!
My new cat is doing well! I have named him Chase, and he seems to be very happy! :) I have attached some pictures for you.

The first one has his eyes closed ... they are such a light blue they don't like the camera's flash very much! The second picture is of him trying to get into my cup that had a little bit of milk in it ... I thought it was adorable (he didn't get stuck in it nor did he get much milk)! The third one of my roommate and him, she also takes care of him with me (best friends, we have to get a cat together)!

Thank you so much!!

Lilly is doing absoutely great! She is a very loving dog and is fitting in great with the family.

She sleeps with our daughters every night alternating between the two and four year old. Our older lab Bandit is also warming up to her, he didn't quite know what to make of her at first, and now they are inseparable.

Lilly is eating and drinking just fine, and her Vet check up went great too.

The only thing we are working on is not snatching food ... kind of hard because our daughters are human vending machines.

Lilly is making progress there, she is really eager to please and is a good girl. We are so happy with our new family addition.

I wanted to thank you and God Bless for all of the good work you do.

Thank You,
The Oliver Family

Thank you very much!!
Cash is [finally] off antibiotics and is perfectly healthy!!

He has been with us for a little more than a week, and is feeling so much better he has gained 2 pounds! He is a doll, and loves to run, jump and play - though he gets tired fast. I must say, his personality has really blossomed, there is so much packed into his little body. He absolutely loves our slippers, but has no interest in his Kong toys! Cash has picked up potty training very fast, and hardly has an accident, we're still working on sleeping through the night though.

Again, thank you, thank you, thank you! Know that your work does not go unappreciated!

Ariana, J.C. and Cash

Hi,
Just wanted to update you on "Bella" the cat we adopted from PetSmart.

She is doing wonderful, she loves my bed as you can see in the picture.

She is the sweetest cat, we have named her Isabella because it is more feminine and she is such a lady....

We love her very much, the dogs aren't so sure yet, but they are now tolerable. My littlest chihuahua wants to be friends and brings her toys all the time.

She is slowly warming up to her and I hope that someday they will be good friends! I am so glad that we found her.

Thanks for your time and work to save these precious little guys!

Tammie

I was just thinking today how lucky I am to have gone into PetSmart in July to pick up dog food. I walked by the cat cages, which is always a dangerous thing for me to do. I fell in love at first sight with JoJo. I am convinced that he is an angel and I know that he was meant to be my little baby. I love him so much and just had to share a couple of pictures of him. I am really grateful to the wonderful lady that fostered him until he was ready to come and spend the rest of his life with me.

Thank you for looking out for the little furry angels that need some help.

Liz

Happy Holidays!
We're not sure if you remember Pequita or not, but it has been about 3 years since I first contacted you about possibly adopting her. I remember being so disappointed learning she had already been adopted and then so excited when I found out she was again available ... I also remember meeting Michel at the Scottsdale Petsmart and how Pequita wouldn't even let me look at her and tried to bite me. AND THEN...my husband's face when I said..."sure, we'll take her home and see how it goes."

I think he thought I had fallen off of my rocker, but I knew this dog just needed some patience. And patience she found ...

She seems as happy as can be...with a Yorkie and three cats to play with everyday. She still doesn't like new people too much, but doesn't cower to the ground, try to bite, or run away anymore. Like any Chihuahua, she has good shaking skills and poor teeth, but she is our baby and we love her dearly. Thank you for rescuing this poor little angel and for trusting us with her all this time. We think she's about 7 years old now and has the spring of a puppy in her step. Here she is playing with her brother, Gizmo ...

I hope you can tell by the raised tail, how much she is getting better and better with each passing day. She is sitting on the couch across the room from me right now, dozing with a cute Christmas bow on her collar.

Thank you for everything you do and Happy Holidays ...

Sincerely,
Jenefer and Chris

Hi!
Just wanted to say a quick Hello, and let you know how great Shani is doing in her new home! She is just a fabulous, furry bundle of love, affection, and ENERGY - very demanding vocally when she wants attention - will climb up on my husband's chest and meow in his face until she gets her "massage!!" She will also drape herself on my husband's broad shoulders, and let him walk around with her like that!

I've attached a couple of pictures (one of the rare times she was sitting still) - I just love that totally innocent look she has sometimes (as demonstrated in one of the pictures) ... but oh, don't let that fool you - she is a little rascal "in disguise" - loves to explore her new home and get into anything she can (stealing anything that strikes her interest and that she can carry), race from one end of the house to the other, chasing a few of her sisters or her favorite ball, and loves to sit at the windows and watch all the birds coming around.

She is eating very well - has to keep up her energy, of course - I'm hoping she will still 'grow into' that new little belly she has developed!!!!!

She seems to be quite happy and we're just thrilled to have her! I still don't really know what came over me that day when I saw her at PetSmart, that instant connection I felt when she was talking to me, with her little white paws reaching through the cage - but I'm so glad that she recovered and that we were able to adopt her - and I'm so thankful that you took such good care of her.

Thanks again for all you did, and your prompt attention to Shani, and also your timely communication with me regarding her progress and the adoption.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!!

Karen & Dirk

Hi,
I wanted to write and say thank you for rescuing Maggie from Animal Control.

Maggie is a 4 year old black cockapoo that was picked up and at Animal Control for several days, and was on the euthanasia list when you rescued her. She was spayed the same day and we adopted her 3 days later at the 7th Street and Bell location.

I had been searching the internet for a month or so before that day looking for a small female dog to finally take the place of our poodle that had passed away over 2 years ago. Finally I thought I was ready for a new dog, but didn't find any one that seemed to be right. Or if I did find one, it was usually already adopted by the time I inquired about it.

I had gone in to PetSmart on that Sunday to look at a small male Lhaso Apso/Shih Tzu that was advertised on your website and Maggie was in the same pen with him. I tried to get his attention, but Maggie kept coming up to the side of the pen and standing up in front of me, as if to say "you don't want him, you want me!" We adopted Maggie that afternoon and I tell everyone that I didn't choose her, she chose us!

She is doing so much better now. After a few days, she did come down with kennel cough and was a pretty sick little girl for a week or so. I picked up the medication from HALO to get her thru that and she is doing really well now.

After 6 weeks, she now pretty much rules the household but she is a very calm, quiet addition, except when she wants to play with the cats. We have 1 cat that "tolerates" her but will not play and the other cat will run and play with her.

Maggie is such a sweet little girl and I know that I was waiting to find her and she has made our family complete again. I have attached a couple pictures of her.

Thanks for all you do for pets! I will certainly refer your organization (and I already have) to my friends when they are looking for new pets.

Debi & Maggie

Just wanted to say thanks for a wonderful dog! Flutie is the sweetest dog I've ever had! She is the talk of the neighborhood and everyone seems to know her. She was voted #1 most fun in the play room by her day care friends and is the smartest puppy in Kindergarten. She has already mastered, "sit," "paw," "down," "roll over," and "leave it." And we've only had her 3 weeks! Her favorite day is Saturday when we walk to the Dog Cafe where she enjoys a Mut Muffin while mom and dad have espresso.

Thanks again!

Here are some pictures for you. The one with her favorite toy (on her blanket) is from the first day we took her home. The other two are more recent.

Jane

Hello,
Thanks for the newsletters. Thought I'd send you some photos of Dakota (but you remember her has Lindsay). The past two years have been great. Enjoy.

Dear HALO,
After losing both my cats early this year, my doggy daughter, Shelby, and I were heart broken. But I knew that the right catchild would present itself when the time was right. I went to the various PetSmarts in my neighborhood where I met some of the most precious fur babies. There were many that I longed to take home with me but the notes on them told me Shelby would drive them nuts!

After visiting the 20th Street location for what seemed like the 100th time, I decided to bring Shelby in to meet with 3 cats to which I was continually drawn. The first two bristled at the sight of Shelby. But the tiny little gray and white Noelle stood up and went to the cage door. She put her paw through gently to touch Shelby. Noelle bravely existed her cage and while I held her, she pushed her nose to Shelby's. Not a hiss; not a claw. Amazingly, after that, they seemed very disinterested in each other. I didn't expect it to be so calm but I knew she was the one.

Noella Enchanted, as she is know known, settled in like a queen come home to her castle. Meowing out her demands. Moving about without fear from day one.

However, considering the fact that Shelby is a retriever/border collie mix, I knew there would be a chase period that would make or break the situation. Noella at first, wasn't too keen on the idea but in a few days, she decided to push back. The next few days it was Noella who was chasing Shelby! For awhile there, Shelby was actually backing away from her out of fear (a tiny 6 lb ball of fur was able to bully the strong, bullheaded Shelby)!

I was concerned but in no time, the pendulum righted itself. Shelby and Noelle bonded quickly and so deeply that if you saw them together, you would think they grew up together. They play all the time, give each other periodic kisses, and lay together. Noelle goes wherever Shelby goes. Seeing them enjoying each other's companionship brings so much joy to my heart.

Thanks Halo! For all the wonderful work you do. For saving so many magnificent creatures and blessing and entrusting us with their care. It really is an honor.

Kim

Meet "Avi," a 5-month-old German Shepherd puppy. She was at Maricopa County Animal Care and Control along with an adult male Shepherd (who went to another rescue); both of them were brought in as strays. We don't understand why she was overlooked by the public, but we were happy to find such a wonderful, sweet girl. We were loading her in the car at Animal Control when a nice couple came to see her. They decided on-the-spot to adopt her but she wasn't quite ready to go home with them yet. A few days later, they came and picked her. "Avi" has grown quite a bit since she was adopted a few weeks ago and is a sweet girl who likes to get in to everything. She recently returned from a camping trip with her new mom and dad and highly enjoyed herself!

Hello,
Guiness is doing wonderful! He has taken over the household and creeped into all of our hearts! Eating and drinking just fine! He likes to sleep during the day, but likes to be awake from about 3AM - 6AM! Not exactly my schedule when I have 2 1/2-year-old twins! He likes to open doors and cabinets, so all night he opens cabinets and doors. Just trying to keep him out of the twins bedroom at night.

We have had to block the twins door at night to keep him from jumping up and opening the door! He is very smart! He loves to drink from the water faucet, and loves kitty treats. Not much of a cuddler yet, but he is wonderful. For some reason, one of my twins calls him "stinky cat" - don't know where this came from, because neither of them have ever been around a cat before!

Sincerely,
Heidi

Hello,
You may not recall us. I adopted Jaden (or he consented to adopt me) at the PetsMart on E. Thomas early in July. Took him not long to get adjusted. In the "sitting" picture you might note his left paw looks larger than his right - flexing his paw in simple pleasure at being the center of attention.

Jaden was taken by HALO from the county shelter, and beautifully taken care of by you and your volunteers. He was popular while at the Adoption corner at the store - one of your volunteers (Christi?) missed him. Fortunately, I was able to reassure her he's happy and in a pretty good home.

Thanks so much to you and HALO. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Dick

Hello,
Wanted to introduce you to Harriet "Harry" MacGregor formerly known as Cheyann - 2642.

Her last two weeks have been quite an adventure. Two weeks ago she was in the County lock-up and scheduled to be euthanized when her new friends from HALO came along on Saturday and took her home.

The next day she visited a PetSmart store with several of her new friends and managed to steal the hearts of almost everyone she met. We were all very happy when she made friends with a family who went home to get her new sister.

They were very comfortable with each other and it was decided Cheyann could go home with them. First she had to visit the vet to be spayed. Two days later, she went home to her new family. On the way home, she announced she wasn't that found of being called Cheyann and let us know her actual was Harriet MacGregor but she preferred to be called Harry.

Harry's family had to go away for a few days so she and her new sister Marley had a short vacation at the Cannine Country Club. When her parents came home, they picked her up from the Country Club where she got very high marks on her report card.

She is adapting very nicely to her new home. She is very gentle and high energy and doesn't know many rules but she is learning them very quickly. Every day is an adventure for us as she teaches us a new way approach cake on top of the counter, her deep desire to chase rabbits, how to drink water from the swimming pool without getting wet.

She has adapted to a crate for sleeping and knows how to cuddle up on the couch to watch a little TV. She is also teaching Marley about dog play and making some strides in that area as well. All in all, she is a delight, seems to have settled right in. We are all glad to have her here and are looking forward to a lot of years with her.

Hello,
I already had 7 rescued katkids in my household when I accompanied my friend to PetSmart one day because she needed horse supplies.

Every time I rescued another katkid, my husband would say, "this is the last one" so I expressly told my friend to keep me away from the cat display, but when she wandered off ... I saw Pearly Girl, a.k.a "Frankie" in the front window and just couldn't stop looking at her. Somehow, even without interacting with her directly, I knew she had to be mine.

My friend managed to get me out of the store without my caving into my impulse and we had a nice, long lunch. Afterwards, when we got back in the car, it just drove us right back to the PetSmart store! When we found ourselves parked back in the parking lot, my friend said, "Just go get her." So I did.

"Frankie" was described as 11 years old with one ear. Her bad ear is actually there, it's just folded down close to her head from an infection she had as a kitten. I brought her home and hid her in the guest room for about a half hour. When my husband got home and I got up the nerve to tell him what had happened, he went right in to see her. Forty-five minutes later he came back out and said, "I see why you got her." What a guy! You'd have to have a heart of stone not to fall madly in love with her.

She somehow knows I "rescued" her from her temporary home with HALO and now is in her forever home. From the first night, she began sleeping with me with her head on my pillow. She reaches out her paw and rests it gently on my nose, as if to reassure herself that I will be there. Then she purrs me to sleep.

I was worried that the other katkids would give her a hard time since they all have claws and she was previously declawed, but they don't trouble her. She is so sweet and loving, even my mother-in-law, who isn't an animal lover, ended up naming her Pearl! She truly is one!

Thank you HALO for your great work and for saving this special kitty that other rescues might have disposed of.

Renna

Hello,
Two summers ago I was in search of another dog as a companion for my aging dalmatian, Brigid. I went on the Halo website everyday in search of a dog. Everytime I found a dog, it had already been adopted! Until one day my search paid off and I found Cindy!

When she was brought to meet Brigid and I at PetSmart, she was extremely shy. I was told that she hid under the foster parents table for several days. She appeared traumatized by her ordeals. But, when the foster parent put her on the floor, Cindy crawled right onto my lap, and crawled into my heart.

Her name is Veda now. She isn't shy anymore! She has to meet-n-greet everyone!

I thank HALO for rescuing her from wherever she was found, beacause in turn, Veda has rescued me, too!

Mardi

Hi,
We are greatly enjoying our new addition to the family.

I got her for our daughters 4th Birthday and she was so happy!

Cheryl

Hi everyone at HALO,
Here are some photos of Bogart meeting his new buddy - Cody our Labradoodle. He has found his favorite chair to sleep in for the moment. The next photos are Bogart enjoying some work time at the computer with me!

We are totally enjoying him and Cody is looking foward to having a playmate to grow up with.

We totally love him! Thanks.

Deb

Hi,
I know you are very busy but I thought you might enjoy seeing this and I wanted to thank you for all you do for the animals.

Thank you for all the joy Jude has brought us, he is a very affectionate, loving boy with lots of personality (thank you to whomever fostered him!).

Here he is enjoying the sun from our kitchen skylight (we adopted him as a kitten at the May 05 adoptathon in phx).

Susan

Hi,
Oliver is doing just great! He is such a good cat.

I took him to PetSmart on Monday and had Renee groom him and trim his nails. She said he really liked the water.

He has a habit of playing with the water in the toilet bowls so I try and keep them closed since I have heard that they can get in and drown.

I have attached a couple of photos of Oliver. He is being so spoiled and he loves his new home.

Thanks so much.

Cindy

Hi,
I have wanted to send you a picture of Cooper for the last 7 months! I hope this works.

He is such a little angel, it's hard to believe he is a puppy, he must have an old soul.

We walk around the neighborhood early in the morning, he does pretty good with this until we see another dog. Then he wants to pull and see, some of the other dogs we meet are not so receptive, then he goes on the defensive.

We gave up the crate, he just didn't do so well in it when we would leave the house, so he has the run of the house when we are home, and when we leave he is confined to the family room and kitchen. This has been working out well, but he has been getting up on the couch and snoozing. I don't mind as long as he doesn't rip it up, or try this when I'm home. So far no accidents and one day I was gone for 8 hours!

We hope that Cooper's sister is doing well. Thank you for all the work you do with HALO Animal rescue!

Karen, Rob & "Cooper"

Hi,
A success story indeed ... just over 2 years ago I adopted Bentley from HALO. He is the apple of my eye ... here are some pics.

Whitney

Hello,
Her name was Kenzy when we saw her at PetSmart, sitting in the corner of a pen, looking so sad. Our family dog had passed away after being my best friend of 18 years and I did NOT want another dog, I told everyone. We went to the Humane Society and I felt sad for all of them but none of them clicked and anyway, I didn't want another dog.

We saw a homeless man on the corner with his dog that day and my son and I decided to go get his dog some food. HALO rescue was at Petsmart that day. And I saw "Kenzy" and I knew she was mine. I started to cry when I saw her and had to choke back tears as I chatted with her foster mother.

She had been a stray, living on the streets, full of ticks and fleas...and she seemed so sad. Everyone was preoccupied with the little puppies...and Kenzy was 9 months old sitting all by herself. My son crawled into the pen with her and hugged her and he wouldn't get out of the pen, he just looked at me and said, "mom" ...

Well, as you can see from our photo, she now has a home. And she is SO loved.

And BTW, she changed her name to "Halo."

Valerie
