Giving your time to our animals in need is rewarding and will fill a special place in your heart as well as their's.

Getting Started is Easy!

In 2013, HALO saved 7,073 dogs and cats!  We couldn't do it without the amazing volunteers who donate their time to help us save lives.

If you're ready to begin your volunteer experience, please fill out our online application. We will review all applications which, due to high demand, can take up to a week.

If you are a great fit for HALO's volunteer program, we will invite you to a 90-minute Volunteer Orientation.  During the session, you will learn about HALO's history, mission, and the volunteer opportunities available.  After you have complete orientation, we'll get you started with training within your area(s) of interest! For more specialized interests, we will be happy to speak with you further after orientation. There is a $20 registration fee for each person participating, which offsets the cost of the HALO volunteer t-shirt and the name tag you'll be given.

To qualify for HALO volunteering, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old and have a great love and compassion for our furry friends
  • Have a positive, flexible and dependable demeanor
  • Be able to pre-schedule volunteer hours using HALO's volunteer website
  • And (after orientation) have a basic understanding of HALO's mission and goals

Animal Care Volunteer- Whether you love cats, dogs, or both, we have plenty of opportunities within animal care. This might include cleaning kennels, preparing food or treats, bathing dogs, providing exercise and/or socializing pets, and much more.

Adoption Counselors- Be an integral part of matching pets with their new families. Our counselors conduct conversations with potential adopters to gauge which pets may make the best matches for interested families. Additional training is required for this position.

Additional Opportunities- We always need extra help with our adoption events throughout the year, and we always have administrative needs. Plus we would love help with pet photography and creative writers for pet biographies, and our pets even need help with their laundry!

It is vitally important that each volunteer realize that his or her part is critical to the success of our rescue work. No matter how minor a task may feel, we would love to have you on board. We ask that once you have scheduled an assignment, that you fulfill your commitment to the best of your ability.  We understand that life happens- we just ask that you let us know as soon as you can if you are unable to make a scheduled shift.

If you're ready to begin your rewarding volunteer experience please sign up via our online application. If you have any questions you can call 602-506-2239 or email us at volunteer@halorescue.org.
